Dermatologists Say Coffee Might Reduce Skin Redness

Coffee is currently one of the most profitable business in the world. In some countries, you can’t walk down a populated city street without seeing a shop or café right on the corner. It is also one of the most consumed liquids in the world, and there is evidence a moderate amount may improve your health.

That’s right, people. Using coffee the right way can help you lead a healthier life. It contains a host of antioxidants and can also burn fat. But a lengthy case study has shown that it can greatly reduce and possibly prevent a particular skin condition.

Rosacea is a skin condition characterized by a redness of the skin, causing some people to have unusually red cheeks. This is caused by the dilation of blood vessels near the skin’s surface. According to Dr. Dendy Engelman, a New York City dermatologist, “Rosacea is triggered by sun exposure, extreme temperatures, stress, alcohol, spicy foods, and others.”

From 1991 to 2005 a study was conducted to document the effects of coffee on women who were likely to develop the condition. From a total of 82,737, just a little under five thousand of those participants were diagnosed with it during the course of the study.

The study also found that the magic number of coffee to help stave off Rosacea was four cups or more. There was no significant benefit in decreasing the likelihood of the condition with decaffeinated coffee.

Joshua Zeichner, MD, says although scrubs may be good for some people, for those with rosacea “I caution against using coffee scrubs in these patients because the active physical exfoliation may cause irritation.”

I’m not gonna lie, I love to have a cup of coffee in the morning before I get going. But I cannot imagine drinking more than four cups in a day.
