Awesome Things You Can Do With Banana Peels
For everyone who isn’t allergic to bananas, it an amazing fruit (it’s actually a berry!) that people eat from green to black. But what about the banana peel? You are probably like most of us and just toss it right into the trash after eating what was beneath the peel.
Aside from being used for comedy bits about people slipping, the banana peel has been completely ignored. But here are a few ways you use banana peels you probably didn’t know about:
1. Reduce Acne
So acne is a problem for you and few treatments have had much effect. If your last Neutrogena shipment was a little disappointing, why not give the mighty banana peel a shot?
Banana peel contains vitamin c, vitamin e, potassium, and zinc. They also contain iron and manganese. These nutrients have been proven to calm inflamed skin and reduce the frequency of outbreaks.
The peel does a great deal of work to fight inflammation and acne outbreaks with the use of lutein and carotenoids.
2. Reduce Wrinkles
Every year, people spend millions of dollars on skin crème regimens that claim to reduce wrinkles with consistent use. But why spend your hard-earned money on products more expensive than they are worth when the banana peel can do the job just as well.
Still not sure about how bananas can reduce wrinkles? The peel actually contains vitamin c, which is known to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Here’s how to use it:
Rub the banana peel over your skin and unless you sleep on your back all night, leave it on your face for 30 minutes. Then wash your face and moisturize. Do this at least 3 times a week.
3. Polish Silver
Whether you like to hoard your silver like a pirate for its value or keep jewelry around for its sentimental value, there’s no need to buy an expensive polish for your trinkets. Why spend more money on a bottle of Weiman Silver Polish when there’s a peel from your lunch sitting in front of you?
How does a banana peel polish your silver? It is a chemical reaction between the silver and the potassium in the peel.
Here’s how to use the banana peel as a silver polish:
• Take a couple peels and place them in a blender.
• Add in a half cup of water.
• Mix until you have a paste.
• Rub the paste on your silver as needed
4. Remove Splinters
Splinters are small shards of wood that burrow under the skin after a person has dragged their skin over some sort of wood. They are extremely painful and it is sometimes very difficult to remove them. Banana peels happen to be rich in a particular enzyme that seems to pull foreign objects to the surface of the skin.
With the aid of a peel, removing pieces of glass and wood with splinters becomes much easier.
How to use for splinters:
• Apply to affected area
• Leave for 15 minutes
• Remove without any rubbing
• Then remove the splinter
5. Easy Composting
If you are into creating compost piles, then consider adding banana peels to your mix. They are a great source of calcium, magnesium, sulfur, phosphates, potassium, and sodium. These nutrients will promote healthy plant growth, whether you add to compost or place them under your plants.
To add banana peels to your compost:
• Cut into small pieces
• Bury the skins under the plant you want to fertilize – ideally next to the roots
• Water the plant right away to let the soil sit on top of it
6. Whiten Your Teeth
The best way to keep your teeth white, according to dentists, is brushing twice daily. The only way to make them wider, as far as most know, is with unusually expensive whitening strips.
Save yourself a few dollars and use banana peel as an alternative. The potassium in the peel is a great way to reduce the yellowing of teeth caused by things like coffee, tea, blueberries, and raspberries.
After brushing and rinsing your teeth well, rub the inside of the banana peel across your teeth for about two minutes. Then rinse your teeth one more time. Repeat daily for the best results.
7. They Help Treat Migraines and Headaches
Tired of taking pills for your migraines that are now giving you trouble? Look no further for a natural remedy. Placing a peel on either your forehead or the back of your neck, the potassium in it helps to reduce the pain associated with them.
To use them:
• Put the banana peel in the freezer for an hour
• Apply one line of peel to your forehead and one to the back of your neck
• Leave on until it becomes warm
• Repeat if you still have a headache with additional cold peels
P.S. You might know that bananas are healthy for dogs when given in moderation, BUT your dog will be better off without the banana peels! So, don’t ever feed him with them!
