2. Intelligent

Many people like to feed their dogs treats so that they strain their throat to make noises that sound like words. The difference between dogs and parents is these birds can learn to do a lot of things. The level of intelligence, depending on the species, can range from that of a 3 to 6-year-old human child.

3. They Can Speak

Parrots have been known to pick up a variety of words and phrases from the people around them. With them possessing a human-level intelligence, you might even teach them enough to have a full conversation with the bird. Some birds are capable of learning a vocabulary of up to 1,000 words or more.

With their brain power, they might even use the words they learn in proper context during a conversation.

Be careful what you say around them, though. They’ll remember what they hear.

4. Highly Interactive

Because of their potential intelligence level, it’s always a good idea to get them colorful toys and tools to mess with. Feel free to get your bird some puzzles to challenge his or her mind. You’ll both enjoy watching them solve any problem and form a stronger bond in the process.

Go ahead and challenge them with guessing games and other activities you would do with a child.

5. Lifelong Companionship

Parrots are far different from cats and dogs. Yes, our four-legged friends can be loyal. But they are loyal to whoever cares for them in the proper way. With your feathered friend, you are a member of their flock. The bond an individual forms with a parrot becomes so strong that nothing can break it.

When you and your parrot form a bond, you become their person. You are their only person and there will be no other. It’s a very sweet sentiment for an animal to possess.

6. They Look Beautiful

Who doesn’t love a wonderfully decorated animal? Parrots come in a variety of different shades and colors. Having one can brighten up your whole living space and life with pops of color when they flap or fly around.

7. Conversation Starter

Parrots are one of the more interesting birds when it comes to letting them out of their cage. You can leave them for minutes at a time with no worry at home, but if your bond with them is strong, you might even get to take them on walks.

Why not stroll through town with Charlie on your shoulder? People will get excited at the sight of a parrot taking a walk with someone, you won’t even have to start the conversation yourself.

8. Food Isn’t Expensive

When it comes to what you are feeding your avian friend, you don’t have to worry about the feed breaking your bank. Parrots do require a special diet, but this special diet will only cost about $30 to $40 a month.

That is pretty inexpensive compared to the cost of feeding one or more average sized dogs or cats in a month.

9. Nurturing

Most humans possess a basic need to nurture someone or something else. If you love children but aren’t too hot about having them yourself, you can get a parrot. Having a pet fills that need to nurture, but parrots are especially good because they require more focused attention.

10. Grooming

Birds, in general, are very clean animals, and parrots are great at keeping themselves looking smoothed out with every feather in its place. You’ll also have to trim their beak and nails, or you can have more someone with more experienced hands complete such a task.

And you might want to add a bath with tepid, clean, filtered water.
