Early Life

Blake Ellender Lively was born on August 25, 1987, in Los Angeles, California to actor Ernie Lively and her mother Elaine who was a talent scout. She has half-siblings from her mother’s previous relationship and an older brother, Eric Lively. 

“I have a tight-knit Southern family,” she says.

“So whenever I tell people I’m from L.A., they say, ‘Yeah, but you don’t count,’ I guess because of the Southern values I was raised with, and the way I eat — the more sugary and cheesy and fried, the better,” she described.

Her first encounter with acting was at a very young age when she would accompany her parents to acting classes as they did not want to leave her with a babysitter.

Every member of the Lively family has been involved in the entertainment industry in one way or the other. In school at Burbank High School, she was an all-round student.

She participated in cheerleading, the choir and was class president. Before high school, however, Lively had attended a total of thirteen different schools.

She started acting at aged 10. She landed her first role in a movie her father directed called ‘Sandman’ in 1998. In 2005, she acted in the American drama-comedy The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and in 2006, Accepted.

She captivated fans and audience with her stellar performance in both. Her performance in the 2015 chick-flick earned her a Teen Choice Award nomination for Breakout Movie Star.

Lively landed her most famous role to date on the CW’s hit teen drama Gossip Girl as Serena van der Woodsen in 2007.

The show follows the lives of privileged teenagers on the upper east side. Serena Van Der Woodsen is a blonde and beautiful socialite. Everyone knows Serena.

The show is slated for a comeback in 2020 but with a new cast and a modern look into today’s issues and trends. 

During the premiere of The Rhythm Section in January 2020, Blake Lively confirmed to E! News that she isn’t “involved” in the production of the reboot.

She also said any questions about the reboot could be directed to the producers, as “she’s not taking part in the series in any way, shape or form”.

Since Gossip Girl ended in 2012, Lively has starred in films such as The Age of AdalineThe Shallows and A Simple Favor

One of Lively’s most acclaimed roles to date is her supporting role as the younger version of the title character in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009)


Blake and her husband and fellow actor Ryan Reynolds who is 11 years her senior are one of Hollywood’s most famed and beloved couples. The beloved couple met when filming the Green Lantern film in 2011.

They were each seeing other people at the time so decided to stay friends, despite their obviously insane chemistry.
