Denzel Washington Early Life
The famous actor was born on December 28, 1954, in New York. His mother was a beauty parlor and operator born in Georgia, who was raised in Harlem, New York.
Denzel Washington is named after his father, who was named after the Doctor who delivered him. His name? Doctor Denzel.
His father was born in Buckingham County, Virginia, and spend his life working at a local S. Klein department store.
Washington attended Pennington-Grimes Elementary School in Mount Vernon until 1968. When young Denzel was only 14 years old, his parents decided to go separate ways.
After that, his mother sent him to the private preparatory school Oakland Military Academy in New Windsor, New York.
According to Washington, this decision changed the course of his life. From there, he moved to Florida.
Initially, he wanted to attend Texas Tech University, and eventually, he earned a BA in Drama and Journalism from Fordham University in 1977.
During his college, Denzel played collegiate basketball as a guard.

Washington started his acting path bacn in 1976 when he performed Wings of the Morning, in summer stock theater.
One year later, he had the first performance in the made-for-television film Wilma, and his first Hollywood appearance in the 1981 film Carbon Copy.
Everything from that moment on lead him to today’s success.
His massive career break happened with his role as Dr. Phillip Chandler in NBC’s television hospital drama St. Elsewhere, which ran from 1982 to 1988.
At the time, he was one of the few African-American actors to appear on the series for its entire six-year run.
Another massive milestone happened in 1987 when he portrays a South African anti-apartheid political activist Steven Biko in Richard Attenborough’s Cry Freedom, for which he received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
In 1989, Washington won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of a defiant, self-possessed ex-slave soldier in the film Glory.
In 1990, Washington starred as Bleek Gilliam in the Spike Lee film Mo’ Better Blues.
In 1998, Washington starred in Spike Lee’s film He Got Game – a cult movie of modern generations.
In 2000, Washington appeared in the Disney film Remember the Titans, and he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama for his work in The Hurricane.
He was the first black actor to win the award since Sidney Poitier in 1963.
In 2010, Washington starred in The Book of Eli, a post-Apocalyptic drama, while in 2016, he directed the film Fences.
In 2017, Washington starred in the legal drama film Roman J. Israel, Esq.

Back in 1983, Denzel married Pauletta Pearson. Washington met Pauletta while working on the television film Wilma.
They have four children. As of 2018, Denzel and his wife are located in New York City.
In 1995, Washington and Pauletta renewed their wedding vows in South Africa. Overall, they have one of the longest marriages in Hollywood.
