The Big Blockbusters of the Year 2019 That Made Enormous Money

2019 was a big year for Walt Disney and Marvel Studios as they released some of the highest-grossing movies of all time.

It was the year when many box office records were broken as producers laughed and danced their way to the banks. Without further ado, here is a list of the blockbusters of 2019.

Avengers- Endgame

Marvel comics superhero squad the Avengers made a groundbreaking come-back in one of the most anticipated movies in the era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie that was released on April 22, 2019, amassed $853 million at the domestic box office.

This makes it the second-highest-grossing movie in North America behind “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which had a gross income of $936 million. Internationally, it collected a mighty $1.9 billion.

The movie which is 22nd entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe features an all-star cast including of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man.

“A huge congratulations to the Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios teams, and thank you to the fans around the world who lifted ‘Avengers: Endgame’ to these historic heights,” Alan Horn, Disney co-chairman and chief creative officer, said in a statement. “Of course, even with the passage of a decade, the impact of James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ remains as powerful as ever, and the astonishing achievements of both of these films are ongoing proof of the power of movies to move people and bring them together in a shared experience.

The talented filmmakers behind these worlds have much more in store, and we look forward to the future of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Pandora,” said Marvel president Kevin Feige.

The Lion King

Disney remake of the Lion King is now the ninth highest-grossing movie of all time, according to Box Office Mojo with a gross income of $1.435 billion globally.

The film is now the studio’s highest-rated animated movie ever, as far as “animated” movies go. The movie was released on July 19, 2019. Fans flocked to screens worldwide to watch the stars in action.

They were Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner as Timon.

 Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker

The Rise of Skywalker produced, co-written and directed by J. J. Abrams. It is a production of both of Walt Disney and Lucasfilm who produced and distributed it. 

The Rise of Skywalker had its world premiere in Los Angeles on December 16, 2019, and was theatrically released in the United States on December 20, 2019. The film opened with $177 million in mid-December.

“Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us.

We were never going to recast or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode 9 by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII,” J.J. Abrams said in the July casting announcement.

Spider-Man: Far from Home

Spider-Man: Far From Home became Marvel’s third $1 million-plus earner in 2019 after officially grossing the $1.005 billion at the global box office.

It was released on Jue 28, 2019 and was the first spiderman to reach that threshold. It follows in the footsteps of Captain Marvel ($1.128 billion) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.79 billion).

Tom Holland’s performance alongside all the other cast members did not disappoint as it catapulted the film to the top as Sony Pictures’ highest-grossing film ever.

 Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel, which premiered on February 27, 2019, was an instant box-office hit and became the first female-led superhero film to pass the billion-dollar mark.

It grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide thanks to the chemistry between the cast and impressive action sequences. It is the ninth highest-grossing Marvel Studios movie so far and there are talks of the second one in 2020.

 Joker

 The Joker landed as the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2019 with an income of over $1 billion. The R-rated movie was premiered on August 31, 2019.

The film is nominated for a leading 11 awards at the 92nd Academy Awards and won two awards at the 77th Golden Globe Awards. 

The film is directed and produced by Todd Phillips. Joaquin Phoenix stars as the Joker.
