Find Out How Northern Lights In Norway Appear In The Sky

The planet Earth has a lot of sights and sounds to offer. Down in the depths of the ocean, we can see creatures that exist nowhere else. At the top of mountains, we can view horizons that most people have only seen in pictures. But one of the greatest wonders exists in the skies above the Arctic.

The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) is a natural light show that can be seen from the Arctic or regions near the Arctic. You know you have your eyes on them when you see waves of red and green lights streaking across the sky.

The phenomenon is actually caused by solar winds that permeate the earth’s magnetic field. Energy from these solar winds is most concentrated in the North and South Poles. One of the best places to see this light show is in Norway.

“It’s hardly an exaggeration to say that we can see them at least every other clear night,” says Truls Lynne Hanses, of the Tromso Geophysical Observatory, “So it’s obvious that northern Norway, with its easy accessibility and mild winter climate, is an attractive place to view them.”

Interested in seeing the Northern Lights? Why not take a 12-day cruise on a Hurtigruten ship? In addition to the cruise itself, a professional astronomer will join you on the ride, giving you the opportunity to learn things you didn’t know before.

Guests will also get to visit the Tromso Science Center, where lectures are held to teach individuals about the lights.

It is Norse lore, Vikings believed that the Northern Lights were a visual manifestation of the Bifrost, the rainbow bridge to Asgard.

Some people say that when the light is particularly intense, they can hear crackles in the air as if the area is becoming charged with electricity.

How does a cruise to the Northern Lights sound to you?
