Sleeping For Too Long Might Actually Be Bad For Your Health

Many people find that sleep is an excellent way to pass the time. It feels refreshing and we can experience plenty of things when we dream. We may gain a different perspective on a particular situation or have conversations with people long gone from our lives.

We already know that it is possible to sleep too little. Staying awake for too long can cause hallucinations and random muscle twitching that makes operating vehicles dangerous.

Scientists have determined that a full night’s rest for the average adult amounts to about eight hours. If that is not possible, it’s recommended one get at least four hours of shut-eye.

There are people who love sleeping for an entire twelve hours. “I feel great after sleeping that long,” some people might say. A new study may show that doing that too often may be detrimental to brain health.

Using the power of the internet, Neuroscientists at Western University’s Brain and Mind Institute conducted a sleep study with more than 40,000 people contributing data.

About half of the people surveyed slept no more than 5 or 6 hours a night. People who got even less sleep performed certain tasks as if they had aged a decade.

Not surprisingly, the study also found that 7 to 8 hours was ideal for adults to maintain optimal cognitive function.

It is important to get enough sleep so that you perform the best you can at your job. Sleeping too little will definitely have an impact on job performance, but too much might also affect your health in ways you did not expect.

People might never consider it, but the bed they sleep on may also affect how much sleep they’re able to get.
