Roger The Kickboxing Kangaroo Dies At The Age Of 12
The world is full of famous animals like Grumpy Cat, Bubbles the Chimp, or Shamu the Killer Whale. You might have heard of the lesser known, Roger the Buff Kangaroo. The celebrity animal recently said goodbye to his place on Earth, but he had a large impact on the world while he was here.
Like many famous animals before him, Roger the Red Kangaroo gained a large following on the internet for his story. He was about 6 feet 7 inches tall, probably the second-tallest red kangaroo to ever be confirmed.
A heartfelt tribute by Chris “Brolga” Barns, the founder of the sanctuary Roger called home, prompted others across the world to share their own tributes to the beloved muscular kangaroo.
“Farewell our darling Roger,” Barns posted to Instagram, the image and video sharing site. “Sadly, Roger has passed away of old age. He lived a lovely long life and was loved by millions around the world. We will always love you and miss you, Roger.”

Upon receiving news of his passing, one Twitter user wrote “my dreams of going to Alice Springs to see Roger are now shattered.”
The buff marsupial’s story started out quite sad. Barns had found baby Roger inside his dead mother’s pouch while driving down the highway in 2006. He knew the poor animal would not survive on its own, and so decided to bring him back to the sanctuary that he had established the year before.
Roger’s small size gave no indication as to how tall or ripped he would get. In his best of health, the red kangaroo stood at a hefty 200 pounds and a height of almost 7 feet.
Because rescue kangaroos are not able to be re-integrated back into the wild well, Barns opened another sanctuary in 2011 to house Roger and future rescue kangaroos.
In the last picture Chris Barns ever took of Roger, he was looking very relaxed as he waited for a tasty meal.
