Spring Cleaning is when people to get rid of old objects they don’t need, clean old clothing they love, and dust off the parts of the home they finally wish to use.

1. Give Your Fridge Some TLC

People often forget that the place they store food needs just as much care and attention as the rest of the kitchen. Absolutely everything must come out of the refrigerator if you want to clean every inch of the inside.

A simple solution of warm soap and water should suffice. With a washcloth, wipe down both the inside and outside, marveling at the beauty of a clean fridge. Your family will thank you for getting rid of that weird smell coming from the back.

2. Wash Your Bedding

Don’t forget to wash the bed sheets that cover you during the night. While washing your sheets on the normal schedule of every two weeks, thrown in pillow covers and pillows themselves as part of Spring Cleaning.

Just be certain you follow the care instructions printed on the manufacturer’s label. Nobody wants a $300 shrinking to one third its original size.

3. Give Your Kitchen Cabinets a Deep Clean

Kitchen cabinets are probably some of the most neglected parts of the house. When we cook, the heat and vapors that come from our food can stick to the doors of our cabinets. This results in large, dark and grungy spots.

If you can, get yourself a fruit-oil based degreaser and dilute it with water. Use that to gently scrub away the dirty spots. Finish off the surface of the cabinets with some wood-grain spray (if they’re made of wood) and bring back their old shine.

4. Refresh Your Washing Machine

Sure, it cleans our clothes, but what are we to do when the smell tells us the machine needs to be cleaned? If it smells like your washing machine needs a little TLC itself, run it empty with hot water and add distilled white vinegar and baking soda.

After an hour, restart the machine and wait for the water to drain before wiping it down. And voila. You’ll no longer have a smelly washing machine.

5. Banish Food Stains from Your Oven

There is a great deal of oven cleaners on the market, most of them containing chemicals that are harmful to human skin. Save yourself the trouble and danger of those chemicals, and go with the tried and true mix of vinegar and baking soda.

Baking soda and vinegar don’t sound like much, but most people who regularly clean their oven swear by the simple mix.

6. Tackle Tiles with Baking Soda

I have lived in at least two houses where the majority of the flooring was tile. The biggest problem with this flooring is the large amount of obvious stains it could end up with. There’s no need for harsh chemicals like 409 or PineSol to clean up the dirt and dust.

Two gallons of water to ½ cup of baking soda can tackle most tile-related cleaning issue.

7. Take Charge of Your Closet

Do yourself a favor and make room in your closet. Even if those pants from high school still fit you, it is time to let them go. You’re not the teenager you used to be, so think about giving away even the stuff that fits to a thrift shop if you don’t plan on selling them.

You won’t have to worry about extra clothing taking up space and the lack of clothing may prompt you to buy new things.

8. Don’t Forget About The Walls

It is important to clean the walls of your house as well. Using a damp cloth to spot clean will be no problem. And if you have anything that needs more than a bit of water, add some dishwashing liquid like Dawn to help cut through the tougher stains.

9. Put a Kool-Aid Packet to Good Use

Surprisingly, Kool-Aid works just as well as Lysol as cutting through the stains in your toilet. Dump a single packet into the water and leave it overnight. Flush when you wake in the morning and see the difference.
