Early Life

Taylor Alison Swift was born on December 13, 1989, in Reading, Pennsylvania to Andrea Gardner and Scott Kingsley Swift.

Her father was a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch and her mother had worked as a mutual fund marketing executive before becoming a full-time homemaker.

Her younger brother Austin Kingsley Swift is an actor.

Swift identifies as a Christian. She was raised in a Presbyterian family and rode her family’s Quarter horses and a Shetland pony as a child. 

She attended preschool and kindergarten at the Alvernia Montessori School, run by the Bernadine Franciscan sisters, before transferring to The Wyndcroft School.

She attended high school at Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School in Pennsylvania.

Miss Taylor got interested in music at the tender age of nine.

She revealed that the fascination grew thanks to Shania Twain’s music. According to Taylor, her music made her “want to just run around the block four times and daydream about everything.”

She loved to sing as a young girl and was singing karaoke locally at the age of 10. When she was eleven she sang the National Anthem at a Philadelphia 76ers game. She started learning the guitar around that same time.



A development deal with RCA Records allowed Swift to make the acquaintance of recording-industry veterans, and in 2004, at age 14, she signed with Sony/ATV as a songwriter.

She then became the youngest artist signed by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house and, at age 15, she signed her first record deal.

Her 2006 eponymous debut album was the longest-charting album of the 2000s in the US. Its third single, “Our Song”, made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number-one song on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Taylor Swift was certified platinum in 2007, having sold more than one million copies in the United States. 

Swift continued a rigorous touring schedule, opening for artists such as George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill.

It was in 2008 that Swift proved to the world that she could go mainstream and hang up her country boots. With sales of more than half a million copies in its first week, Fearless which was her second album opened at number one on the Billboard 200 charts.

Singles such as “You Belong with Me” and “Love Story” were a global hit. It became the US’ best-selling album of 2009 and was certified diamond in the US. The album won four Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

During her 2009 VMA acceptance speech, rapper Kanye West rudely interrupted her claiming that the award should have gone to Beyoncé.

This interruption has gone on to fuel their feud ever since.

Later in the program, when Beyoncé was accepting the award for video of the year, she invited Swift onstage to conclude her speech, a move that drew a standing ovation for both performers.

She released her third studio album, Speak Now in 2010, Red in 2012 and her fifth album 1989 in 2014.

She released her sixth album Reputation in 2017 and it was her last album under her 12-year contract with Big Machine Records.

In 2019, she released her seventh album Lover which she described as “a love letter to love itself.”

In her career, Swift has won 10 Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, six Guinness world records and is the most-awarded act and woman at the American Music Awards (29 wins) and Billboard Music Awards (23 wins), respectively.


Personal Life

She has been in a number of high-profile relationships including dating celebrities like Joe Jonas in 2008, Taylor Lautner and John Mayer in 2009, Jake Gyllenhaal in 2010, Conor Kennedy and Harry Styles in 2012 and Calvin Harris from 2015 to 2016.

She then dated actor Tom Hiddleston for three months in 2016. She began a relationship with Joe Alwyn in 2016.

According to 2019 estimates, Taylor Swift is worth $360 million. She has amassed her wealth from her record breaking music, tours as well as acting.
