When we are children, the last thing on our mind is being faced with a life-altering decision. There’s no thought about our future college or what doctor we’ll see as adults. But what would you do if you were faced with the drastic choice of whether or not to amputate a part of your body?

Tessa Snyder is a 29-year-old model from Philadelphia who had to make a decision everyone hopes to never make. At the young age of 11, she made the decision to amputate her own leg. The choice to amputate was not one that Miss Snyder made lightly.

In 2000, at the age of 11, began having severe pains in her right leg. She lived with the pain for a few months, but eventually got an MRI when the pain became too much to bear. The scan revealed that cancer was forming in her femur.

As with many other cancer patients, Tessa began chemotherapy but it began to take a toll on her body. She felt tired all the time and began losing her hair, chipping away at her confidence. The doctors then presented her with another option: have her leg amputated and almost guarantee cancer never returned.

She bravely made the decision at such a young age to remove her leg and save her own life. Despite having to learn to walk again with a prosthetic, Tessa Snyder did not let it stop her from living a full life.

To help build her confidence, the 29-year-old took up modeling. “I feel more beautiful and sexier than ever,” the model said about how it has helped her.

Hearing Tessa’s story is very inspiring and shows us that we shouldn’t let anything stop us from achieving our goals.
