It would be absolutely amazing to win the lottery, wouldn’t it? Imagine all the places that you could possibly go and the things you could buy simply on a whim. But the unfortunate truth is that it’s almost impossible to win the lottery, despite the fact that there are always winners.

1. Shark Attack

So maybe you don’t live near large bodies of water and the idea of sharks puts you off from the ocean. That in no way means it is out of the realm of possibility. The odds of it happening are about 1 in 11.5 million, according to the University of Florida’s International Shark Attack File (ISAF).

You can lower the odds of a shark attack even further if you simply swim in rivers, lakes, and swimming pools.

2. You’re More Likely to Give Birth to a Genius

This may not seem possible but it’s far more likely than your odds of winning a jackpot. Only 1 in 1,100 people are likely to have an IQ score of 150. Individuals with an IQ of 160 like Stephen Hawking happen in 1 out of 11,000 people.

Da Vinci and Galileo were rumored both be in the range of 180, which happens in only 1 out of every 3.5 million people.

3. Death by Vending Machine

So you’ve finally managed to get on your lunch break and all you want is your favorite candy bar. You may not think it but lightning can strike in the oddest of places and you are far more likely to get struck by lightning than to win the Powerball. In a group of 292 million people, one is likely to win the Powerball and 292 others are likely to be fried by electricity from the sky.

The chances of being struck by lightning are actually only 1 in 1 million, but there video security footage of a pedestrian being struck by lightning twice in twenty minutes.

5. Killed by Falling Coconuts

People love to eat their rind and the ‘milk’ that swishes around their hollow center. But if you happen to be vacationing in a tropical climate, you might want to watch yourself around the local trees.

6. Bowling a Perfect Game

Bowling is a game where a player uses a hefty ball to knock down pins at the end of a lane. People with even the slightest interest in the game know that bowling a perfect 300 is extremely difficult, but not completely impossible.

For the average bowler, the odds of a perfect game are 1 in 11,500. For a professional, of course, the odds are 1 in 460.

7. Becoming an Astronaut

Have you ever looked up at the stars and wondered what it would be like to be on their level? Why not take the first step on the road to becoming an astronaut? Why not? Your chances may only be 1 in 12.1 million, but those are still pretty good odds.
